Is parlor palm toxic to dogs or cats?

Also known as: Areca palm, bamboo palm

DogsGenerally safe

Non-toxic true palms. Not to be confused with sago palm.

CatsGenerally safe

Safe for cats, unlike the deadly sago.

True palms like the parlor, areca, and bamboo palm are pet-safe greenery on a grand scale. The critical caveat is the name-alike: the sago 'palm' is not a palm at all and is one of the deadliest houseplants. Know which one you are buying.
