Can dogs eat coffee & caffeine? And cats?
Toxic. Grounds, beans, espresso and caffeine pills are the most dangerous forms.

Caffeine is a stimulant that dogs and cats clear slowly, and concentrated sources (coffee grounds, beans, tea bags, energy drinks, caffeine tablets) can cause dangerous heart rhythms and seizures. A sip of leftover milky coffee is rarely serious, but ingestion of grounds or pills warrants an immediate call to your vet or a poison hotline.
Signs to watch for
- Restlessness
- Racing heart
- Panting
- Tremors
- Seizures
