Carrots are low-calorie, crunchy and genuinely good for dogs; many trainers use them as treats for weight-watching pets. For cats and small dogs, cook or grate them: a hard raw chunk swallowed whole can choke. Frozen whole carrots also make a soothing chew for teething puppies.
