Can dogs eat pumpkin? And cats?
Plain cooked pumpkin is a vet-recommended fiber source for digestive upsets.
Safe; a spoonful of plain puree can help with hairballs and stools.
Plain cooked or canned pumpkin (100% pumpkin, not pie filling) is one of the few human foods vets actively recommend: its fiber helps regulate both diarrhea and mild constipation in dogs and cats. Pumpkin pie filling is the trap: it is sugared and spiced, sometimes with nutmeg, which is toxic in quantity.
Signs to watch for
- Only with pie filling: stomach upset from spices and sugar
