Can dogs eat rice? And cats?

DogsGenerally safe

Plain cooked rice is a classic bland-diet staple for upset stomachs.

CatsGenerally safe

Safe plain and cooked, in small amounts alongside their normal diet.

Plain boiled white rice, often paired with plain chicken, is the classic short-term bland diet for dogs recovering from stomach upsets. It is safe for cats too, though they are obligate carnivores and gain little from it. Serve it unseasoned: no butter, salt, onion or garlic.
